Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years).

Available on the Kindle and can also be read on the iPad, PC and other devices enabled with free Kindle Reading Apps.

Magellan Montessori LLC is proud to announce the publication of Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years), its first e-book that provides parents with a comprehensive curricular collection to educate their children at home using the acclaimed and respected Montessori educational method that has been employed worldwide for more than 100 years.
The new e-book is available from Amazon Kindle for $124.99 and can also be read on an iPad and other devices with free Kindle apps.

Developed by the Nobel Prize-nominated Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori method is used today in approximately 20,000 schools around the globe -- 4,000 in North America alone. It is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development, and their respect, in turn, for their environment and fellow human beings.

Written by Certified Montessori Directress

The Magellan Montessori e-book is written by American Montessori Society-certified directress Miriam Coates, M.Ed., who holds a Master of Arts in Education and Montessori from the University of St. Catherine's Center for Contemporary Montessori. Coates provides curricula and insightful guidance for untrained parents to transform their home into a "Children's House," as Dr. Montessori called her learning facilities.

Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years) is one of the few Montessori curriculum packets for children in the early elementary age group and is poised to become the leading choice for home-schooling parents interested in the method. The e-book offers not only three years of curricula, but also lesson plans, presentation examples, and referrals for supplementary and complementary materials that are integral to the Montessori method. Parents will benefit from Coates' formal education and research in Montessori. She authentically adheres to Montessori principles, relying on the writing and lectures of Dr. Montessori to create an authentic Montessori learning environment in the home with multiple options for untrained parents to follow their child's interests and adapt the curricula accordingly.

Families with children that attend public or private schools can also benefit from Magellan Montessori's curriculum. Whether used to complement a child's current classes or to introduce a whole new world of subjects not taught in school, as a supplemental educational tool Magellan Montessori offers families rich opportunities for discovery and deeper understanding.

Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years) should not be considered an alternative for the teacher training program of the American Montessori Society, or any other Montessori organization. It will not train a parent to become a certified Montessori director or directress; rather, the book offers practical pedagogy that can be applied in the home setting while adhering to the classical Montessori method.

Guiding Parents Through the Montessori Method

It is entirely possible for families to apply the philosophy, pedagogy, and materials associated with Dr. Montessori successfully to home-school situations, according to Coates.  The book tells parents how to guide their children through the second plane of development by presenting first the five Montessori Great Lessons -- Origin of the Universe and Earth, Timeline of Life, Coming of Human Beings, Communication in Signs and History of Mathematics. As the curriculum progresses, it takes the Montessori Cosmic approach, which intertwines various related subjects with a more detailed study of language arts, geography, botany, zoology, math, art, science, astronomy and other subjects. Home-schooling parents are free to take the curricula contained in the guide, coupled with direction provided through observation of their child, to create an educational experience uniquely suited for their child’s individual needs.

The Montessori program also relies on a variety of integral materials that facilitate learning by giving children hands-on experience in problem solving, creativity, exploration, and self-motivation. The materials give children the liberty to choose and act freely within their environment, which should be prepared according to the Montessori model so that they can act spontaneously for optimal development. Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years) details the materials and suitable substitutes that will be needed, as well as providing information about acquiring the materials at low cost, in some cases for free, or making them at home.

Online Support Also Available

Finally, Magellan Montessori offers plenty of support for home-schooling parents by connecting them with others who are also using the Montessori method. An online forum on its website -- www.magellanmontessori.com -- provides an avenue for sharing information, asking questions and comparing experiences as parents proceed with the program. The forum is moderated by a certified Montessori directress and the website includes links to other well-researched resources.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that 1.5 million students were being home-schooled in the United States in 2007 and the trend is growing. The Montessori method is a natural match for home schooling. "Montessori classrooms are communities of children and adults. As children grow older and more capable, they assume a great role in helping to care for the environment and meeting the needs of younger children in the class. The focus is less on the teachers and more on the entire community of children and adults, much like one finds in a real family," writes Montessori Foundation President Tim Seldin, M.Ed., in his basic information for Montessori parents. Dr. Montessori herself encouraged families to integrate the method into their children’s lives at home.

Seldin has also said that Montessori parents often make the best Montessori educators, though no official teaching experience is necessary to benefit from Magellan Montessori's Homeschooling Early Elementary (Ages 6-9 Years).

The concept for Magellan Montessori LLC was developed by Suzanne Rouaix, MBA, an experienced professional in management and business operations who learned about the work of Dr. Montessori when researching educational options for her son. Impressed by her family’s experience with the Montessori method, coupled with her desire to explore home education and world travel, she researched and created an accessible, high-quality program and online community devoted to Montessori home schooling.
